Microsoft paid $150M for wearable patents

Just recently, it was reported that Microsoft has paid patents for augmented reality (AR) intellectual party. The company paid a rumored amount of $150 million.

Microsoft is known for wearable technology, especially since it provides its services to the US government. Because of the news regarding the newly acquired patents, the tech community has come up with some speculations. This might open up opportunities to create wearable accessories for the Windows Phone and Xbox. Who knows? This might also mean that a Microsoft smartwatch is on the way.

The Examiner gave an overview on one of the patents: “In addition to a video display that can allow the user to see through the glasses while simultaneously viewing video content, it also includes 3D motion sensor and is optimised for 3D AR.”

This deal was made between Microsoft and Osterhout Design group last November.
