Apple Watch Specs Debate

There is a lot of speculation going around regarding the Apple iWatch. This doesn’t come as a surprise since many have been eyeing it since talk about the device began to spread.

One of the heavily debated topics about the iWatch is its exact display size. Earlier reports concluded that it will be sporting a curved glass design. However, it seems that there is still a possibility that this won’t be the case. Accordingly, Apple is working on two prototypes at the moment. Both of which are equipped with different sized screens. Some rumors claim that Ben Shaffer has a hand on the iWatch’s design. He was part of the team behind the Nike Fuelband, hence, some think that the iWatch may be catering to the fitness community.

Other contrasting reports state that Apple is actually aiming for a flexible OLED display

Hopefully, everyone’s questions regarding the Apple iWatch will be answered soon.

Apple Watch Release Delay

2013 served as an introductory year for the smartwatch market. Big tech companies have been joining the race since then. Now that it’s 2014, smartwatch enthusiasts are looking forward to the newest releases, especially Apple’s highly anticipated iWatch.

Though it’s sad to share this bit of information, it seems that some Apple insiders have claimed that the release date for the smartwatch might be pushed back. Accordingly, some manufacturing issues are to blame. It seems that this problem has rendered some of devices unfit for use. Apparently, the manufacturers encountered some hurdles while applying surface treatments to the watch chassis’ metal injecting molding.

This may put a damper on your mood, but do not fret. Apple has faced such issues in the past. The company will surely be able to bounce back. For now, you can rest assured that the iWatch will be released by the end of the year, maybe around the same time as the iPhone 6.

Sony Smartwatch Music Control

A certain smartwatch user aimed to create a “lightweight” music control app for his Sony Smartwatch 2. What started as a personal project, has evolved into an app that’s worth sharing to the smartwatch community.

The project is ongoing. The creator posts updates from time to time. The app has the following basic functions:

  • Display of artist, title and the album art
  • Swipe for next/previous song
  • Tap for play/pause
  • Should work with all music players which are controllable via the homescreen
  • Font color and size customizable

Android 4.4 Kitkat is required to run the app.

Currently, it is running on version 1.1.6. The latest update allows users to adjust brightness in order to make the font more readable. Volume can also be toggled by swiping.

Qualcomm Smartwatch Mirasol Display

The Chinese have a knack for gadgets. This is why a number of electronics are being sold in its markets. One can even find smartwatches among the gadgets on display. Here is one Chinese creation that’s worth noting:

Qualcomm’s creation, the Mirasol display, has made its debut on the Appscomm Fashioncomm A1. It is the first smartwatch to ever come equipped with it. If you are familiar with the Qualcomm Toq’s prototype, then you’ll know what to expect. It features a 1.55-inch MEMS panel. Aside from a GSM chipset, the smartwatch also allows users to make and receive calls through it.

The A1 also comes with a camera that can be used to take photos and record video clips. It also features Bluetooth connectivity and a  190-hour stand-by time.

Motorola Smartwatch Flexible Display

Big name companies like Google and Apple have decided to make a stand in the smartwatch market this year. It’s no surprise that Motorola is following the majority’s lead. Recently, news broke out that the company has filed a patent application for a smartwatch that’s equipped with a flexible screen. This innovation is welcomed by many because of the possibilities it would open, especially given the fact that smartwatches have constraints in terms of display size.

However, the patent was filed two years ago. This means that the company has been planning to penetrate the smartwatch market before its competitors even considered it. The patent stresses how the flexible display would allow curved viewing and a bit of bending.

Motorola will have to make their move soon because there is some speculation about Apple releasing a smartwatch with a similar feature.
